Melbourne’s Largest Shopping Centre ‘Emporium’ Opens
Meinhardt Façade’s project, Emporium Melbourne, a much-anticipated retail destination, finally opened its doors to the public.
For this new Melbourne landmark, we worked closely with The Buchan Group, to understand their design objectives. As a result, we provided tailored, cost-effective and flexible design for the façade systems, whilst honouring their architectural intent and preserving the 1911 Lonsdale Street heritage facade.
An example is the frameless balustrades installed throughout the development. This exposed the geometric patterns created from overhead walkways and prominent timber features but it also provided the added benefit of reducing the overall costs, being quick and easy to install thus minimising labour requirements.
The site hosts a bevy of international retailers, including Australia’s first Uniqlo store, and is indicative of the movement in this country’s retail scene.
